David Eugene Edwards & Alexander Hacke - Risha

Lider Wovenhand i basista Einstürzende Neubauten na wspólnej płycie. Zaskakujące połaczenie? Chyba nie aż tak zaskakujące, skoro Edwards i Hacke znają się od początków 16 Horsepower. Wspólnie napisali muzykę do The Glasshouse, projektu filmowego zainicjowanego przez żonę Alexandra Hacke, Danielle de Picciotto. Razem pracowali nad albumem "American Twilight" zespołu Crime & The City Solution. Ponadto Hacke miksował płytę Wovenhand "The Laughing Stalk". Po tych wszystkich latach w końcu znaleźli czas na nagranie swego debiutanckiego albumu "Risha":

"David and I have been admirers of each others work for some time. We first got to play together for The Glasshouse, a movie project initiated by my wife Danielle de Picciotto and during the brief resurrection of Crime & the City Solution all three of us were involved with. Shortly after I worked on Wovenhand’s Laughing Stalk album as a mixing engineer. We became close friends during these very diverse collaborations and started talking about creating music together, which would combine electronics with ethnical instruments and overdriven guitars with oriental rhythms and scales" mówi Alexander Hacke.

David Eugene Edwards (Wovenhand, 16 Horsepower) to bez wątpienia jeden z najbardziej imponujących gitarzystów i wokalistów i autorów naszych czasów,  inspirujący niezliczonych muzyków i artystów podczas swojej muzycznej kariery przez ostatnie dwie dekady.
"What I love about David is his approach to words and music, which to me seems to be all about tapping into a divine source of inspiration and to leave all profane concerns and conventions behind in order to create some true and truly great art."

Alexander Hacke, jeden z najważniejszych niemieckich artystów eksperymentalnych, znany jest przede wszystkim jako członek Einstürzende Neubauten.
"He has been a part of my life for so many years, long before I ever had the pleasure to meet him. I am a fan to say the least. He has been more than an inspiration to me. He is a true talent and I have the utmost respect and admiration for him as a person and a musician and all that he has been a part of. I have listened to religiously and learned so much from. When we finally did meet the image I had of him was only made greater, in person he is so kind and patient and generous, intelligent and such an all around bad ass“
- mówi David, potwierdzając tym bardziej, że istnieje bardzo szczególny związek między tymi dwoma artystami. I raczej nie można się z tym nie zgodzić.
"Our way of working together turned out to be really intuitive. We didn’t have to discuss a lot of conceptual strategies and rather allowed ourselves to be guided by the music, which happened to just materialize in vast chunks. All we had to do was to merrily put the pieces together and discover the tale they were telling.” - Alexander Hacke

David Eugene Edwards nagrał wszystkie wokale i instrumenty smyczkowe, Alexander Hacke nagrał klawisze, bas, perkusję i wszystkie elektroniczne dźwięki. Razem tworzą tajemniczą i hipnotyczną atmosferę na "Risha", energię, od której nie można uciec. Denver kontra Berlin.

Nie można tej płyty opisać zwykłymi słowami. Ten wciągający dźwięk jest mieszanką americany, neo-folku, industrialu, ambientu i wpływów arabskich. Muzyka, elektronika z etnicznymi instrumentami; przesterowane gitary w połączeniu z orientalnymi rytmami i skalami.

"Risha" - po arabsku "pióro" zawiera 10 utworów: zaczynając od mistycznego "Tryptich", po którym następuje wściekły rytm "All in the Palm". Hacke i Edwards nadążają za tempem w "The Tell" z jego przemysłowym rytmem, by następnie zmienić klimat w utworze czwartym. "Kiowa 5" zachwyca urzekającym rytmem perkusyjnym i szamańskim wokalem Davida Eugene Edwardsa. "Lily" jest piosenką, w której najbardziej słychać wpływy Wovenahand. Następnie pojawia się mroczny i hipnotyczny "Parish Chief" oraz dronowy "Akhal" by zamknąć płytę "Teach Us To Pray" i ostatnim, epickim "Breathtaker".
