Originally British but now relocated to Germany, Gez Varley gained fame in the early 1990’s as the other half of the seminal electronic duo LFO. Despite its huge influence, Gez left LFO in the mid-90’s to concentrate on his solo projects.
Not only recording under his own name, Gez has also been behind the artist aliases G-Man or *g* and run record labels called G and GMR. So far Gez Varley’s music (not to speak about loads of remixes for other artists) has been heard on such labels as UK’s Swim~, Germany’s Force Inc, Studio !K7, i220, and now on Finland’s Keys of Life.
“Quo Vardis” from the first G-Man EP (Swim~, 1995) became soon an instant classic, regularly rolling on the turntables of such minimal Techno luminaries as Richie Hawtin, Claude Young or Jeff Mills and was followed by the G-Man long-plays “Kushti” (Swim~, 1995) and “Avanti” (Force Inc, 2002). There has been also albums under his own name: “Presents Tony Montana” (!K7, 1998) having soaring Acid influences and “Bayou Paradis” LP (Force Inc, 2001) being Chain Reaction type of Dub Techno.
