Po 16 latach Gusstaff Records wznawia doskonałą płytę Hugo Race & The True Spirit "Goldstreet Sessions" - po raz pierwszy na winylu, limitowany nakład 500 szt. na czarnym 180g winylu!
Dodatkowo jeszcze bardziej limitowana oraz numerowana wersja to 66 szt. z tego nakładu, która zostanie wzbogacona o 7"EP z dwoma niepublikowanymi utworami, wycięta przez Wujka Gusstaffa w ramach serii Don't Sit On My Vinyl!
Preorder na obie wersje płyty startuje 03.09.2019 o godz. 10:17. Nie jest możliwa inna rezerwacja płyty z dodatkowym singlem. Do wolnej sprzedaży trafi de facto tylko 38 szt., bo pozostałe zarezerwowane są dla prenumeratorów i dla artysty.

Był to nowy materiał po 4 latach przerwy... (wydana w międzyczasie na podwójnym CD kompilacja "Long Time Ago" to przegląd przez 10 lat jego solowej działalności). To dziewiąty album Hugo Race'a, przy którym oczywiście nadal musiał mierzyć się z porównaniami z Bad Seeds i odwołaniami do Nicka Cave'a, z którym grał na wielu płytach: "From Her To Eternity", "Kicking Against The Pricks", "Tender Pray" oraz "Murder Ballads".
Hugo Race uparcie jednak poszedł własną drogą, której podstawą nadal był brudny, mroczny, energetyczny australijski blues. Henry Rollins nazwał go "jednym z dziedzictw - bogactw narodowych Australii" i nie było w tym ani słowa przesady.
Album rozpoczyna się utworem "LSD Is Dead", typowym dla Race'a i True Spirit mrocznym wielkomiejskim, żeby nie powiedzieć industrialnym bluesem, z taką intensywnością, jak dziś już tylko chyba w Australii się gra. Przez "Makes Me Mean" ciągnie się samplowany wokal, zatruta gitara, swawolne trąbki i dubowe efekty. "A.M. Radio" ze swoim motywem Spaghetti-western jest natomiast niemal popowy, zanim w drugiej części nie przejdzie w upiorne, psychodeliczne brzmienie. Długa, niemal doorsowska suita "Is Your Love Strong" kalustrofobicznie się zapętla i spiętrza. Dlatego wręcz łagodząco działa gitara Kristofa Hahna (Swans) w "Premonition", gdyby nie ciemny, niepokojący głos Hugo, bo odcienie ludzkiej duszy sa tutaj centralnym tematem, które dotyczą także "Midas Touch", gdzie chodzi o politykę i żadzę posiadania.
Finałowy utwór "Ramacca" sam Hugo nazywa "brooding mafioso dub-blues“ i pokazuje ponownie jak troskliwie podchodzi on do swego brzmienia. Wydaje się, że obróbka dźwięku zajmuje więcej czasu niż nagrywanie ścieżek. Z niesamowitą precyzją i imponującym geniuszem używa instrumentów, konstruuje loopy, sample i odgłosy, obsługuje efekty pogłosu, jakby przez ramię zaglądał samemu King Tubby'emu. Pomimo kilku lżejszych momentów przeważają tutaj ponownie mrok, niepewność, upiorność, hipnotyczny trans... Rock, surowy blues, psychodelia, experyment - no i niezwykła "piekielna" atmosfera, dotykająca zarówno Cave'a, Birthday Party, Jona Spencera, jak i Toma Waitsa czy Tricky'ego.

Former Wreckery frontman and one-time Bad Seed gets mean and moody.
While long-time followers of Race’s work won’t be surprised that the music on this new album inhabits a typically grimy netherworld of dark shadows and sickly foreboding, what may come as a surprise is the seamless way he’s added electronic and sampled textures to the mix. It’s all about subtlety, as the track Makes Me Mean showsA.M. Radio, meanwhile, marries echoedntwangs to a blackly funny Race monologue: My life flashed before my eyes/I blew the film up to American size. The album’s centrepiece though is undoubtedly the sprawling nine minutes of Is Your Love Strong, which reeks of humid jungle heat amid disorienting samples, sick, slow-building horn lines and Race’s carnal nastiness. Scary. But very cool.
