Nowa płyta (08.01.2016 - premiera w Europie) fińskiej żeńskiej grupy neofolkowej.

Värttinä is Finland's most famous folk-band featuring three female singers. Värttinä collaborated with A. R. Rahman, a famous composer from India, in composing the music for the theatrical adaptation of 'The Lord of the Rings', which played in Toronto in 2006 and in London in 2007. Their previous 12th studio album 'Utu' (2012) made it to No. 1 on the World Music Charts Europe immediately.

The 'Viena' album pays homage to the group's musical roots and the Viena Karelian tradition. The new songs on the album have been inspired by a 2014 trip that the group made to the Viena Karelian folklore villages, where they had unique encounters with the last surviving rune singers in the region. These singers are the last living connection to a culture that is thousands of years old, and out of which for instance the Kalevala folk poetry tradition was born. During their journey, Värttinä enjoyed remarkable nature experiences, which have also inspired the album.

"The Viena album is a tribute to Värttinä's Viena Karelian musical roots. The group's sound is more acoustic than it has been for decades, and the vocals combined with the violin, accordion and string instrument trio creates a harmonious tapestry that is both tender and rich. The themes of the songs are directly inspired by moments, meetings and impressions from our trip to Viena Karelia", Värttinä's founding member Mari Kaasinen and album producer and accordionist Matti Kallio explain.

Musicians featured on the Viena album:
Mari Kaasinen - vocals
Susan Aho - vocals
Karoliina Kantelinen - vocals
Matti Kallio - accordion, flute, production
Lassi Logrén - violin, jouhikko (bowed lyre), nyckelharpa (keyed fiddle)
